Okay, I just have no words to explain it, so I'll just link to the article and let you think of some of your own.

"Positive discrimination" they call it. Now there's an oxymoron for you.

If there is still an issue with employers and racism (and from my experience of minority people as doctors and council workers and such like I can't see that there is), is this the way to solve it?

Let's run some little examples here.

Example 1
Employer: I'm afraid we won't be choosing you for the role.
Applicant: Can you tell me why?
Employer: I can. It's because you're black.
Applicant: LAW SUIT!

Example 2
Employer: I'm afraid we won't be choosing you for the role.
Applicant: Can you tell me why?
Employer: I can. It's because you're Asian.
Applicant: LAW SUIT!

Example 3
Employer: I'm afraid we won't be choosing you for the role.
Applicant: Can you tell me why?
Employer: I can. It's because you're Latino.
Applicant: LAW SUIT!

Example 4
Employer: I'm afraid we won't be choosing you for the role.
Applicant: Can you tell me why?
Employer: I can. It's because you're white.
Applicant: LAW SUIT...wait, what? Um... But the other guys got law suits!
Employer: Yes they did. But you can't have one.
Applicant: Why not?
Employer: Well it's because you're white. You don't have any right to.
Applicant: I don't have any rights? You mean like I'm less than a human being?
Employer: Pretty much. See, the Government considers ethnic minorities to be better at this job than you.
Applicant: But I went to the same college as that guy. And we got the same results!
Employer: Ah, but you see we multiply that against the tone of your skin, and if you don't have any pigment then your overall Job Qualification Rating doesn't increase.
Applicant: You remember how black people weren't happy about this treatment in the 20th century?
Employer: Vaguely.
Applicant: What exactly makes you think it's fair to do the same thing but the other way round?
Employer: For god's sake man, you've had your run of the planet for the past 500 years. It's about time you got shafted!
Applicant: Well I guess when you put it like that, my life clearly means nothing to anybody and I alone must make up for the cultural deficit created by my forefathers for their own prejudices and misgivings, which I don't even share anyway, so that some kind of cosmic balance can be reached since it seems to be impossible to just TREAT EACH OTHER LIKE HUMAN FUCKING BEINGS.
Employer: Sucks to be you.

Now if I was in an ethnic minority, I would be deeply offended. I would want my employer to choose me because I had the highest skill of all the candidates, because my working ethic was flawless and my qualifications were off the scale.
Not because some government body decides that the most important qualification you can have is not being white. It would piss me off.

I want everyone to be treated equally. None more equally than others.
I swear there will be a revolution if this thing gets put through.
